Apprille (April) Dawn Mills graced the world with her presence on May 7, 1967 to the late Leroy and Dorothy Mills, Sr in Tuscaloosa, AL. She earned her crown and peacefully departed from this world on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
At an early age she embraced her faith in Christ and united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Hull, AL. April continued her walk of faith throughout her life, connecting with several churches during her adult years. In 2024 she recommitted her life to Christ and chose to be baptized again as a public expression of her renewed faith. April then united with Zion Hope Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, AL where she attended until her health declined.
April was fun-loving with a bold and bodacious personality that drew people to her instantly. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She affectionately dubbed herself "Diva" and "Queen." Titles that perfectly captured her confidence, charm, and vibrant spirit. Whether she was making people laugh, being a dramatic and exaggerating storyteller, or lighting up the room with her presence, April left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She enjoyed singing, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Her "go-to" songs were "I Can't Give Up Now" by Lee Williams, and Shirley Caesar's, "Jesus I Love Calling Your Name."
April is preceded in death by her son, KeUndra P. Mills, brother Harold "Skip" Burns, and sisters, Shirley McKenney, Jacqueline Mills, and Katherine James.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two loving sons: Clyde and Wesley Mills; three grandchildren, Ethan and Elijah Maddax, and Kasia Burch-Mills. She is also survived by seven brothers, Percy (Betty Joyce) Mills Sr., Erskine Mills, Leroy (Cornelia) Mills, Jr., Gerald (Gloria) Mills, Sr., Ronald Mills, Karl (Tamara) Mills, and Karlos Mills; four sisters, Merita (Howard) Bailey, Susan Mills, LaSandra (Darryl) Knox, and Angelia Mills; sister-in-law, Georgia Burns, and brother-in-law, Jerry James; long with a host of nieces, nephews, cousin; friend, Clyde Dent, and long-time friends Mildred Mason Young, Tracy Brooks, and Mildred Jones Thomas.
